BOC-Davao Seizes P 1.72 Million worth of Misdeclared Frozen Tuna

November 15, 2021

The Bureau of Customs-Port of Davao seizes misdeclared “Frozen Frigate Tuna” valued at Php 1.72 million on November 10, 2021.

Intelligence reports revealed that the said container arrived at Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) in Panabo City, Davao del Norte and was said to contain “Frozen Malt”. However, derogatory information led to the issuance of a Pre-Lodgment Control Order (PLCO) against the consignee prompting the 100% physical examination which yielded positive for misdeclaration of goods as 2,300 boxes of “Frozen Frigate Tuna” were found.

Further, the said misdeclared items were not covered by a Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance (SPSIC) and Landing Permit from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) XI.

District Collector, Atty. Austria already issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) against these illicit articles for violating Section 1400 “Misdeclaration of Goods Description” of Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Customs Davao led by its District Collector, Atty. Austria will not waver on its intensified campaign against the smuggling of these illegally imported goods into the country with its partner regulating and enforcement agencies, anchored on Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero’s priority programs that steer BOC to international standards in revenue collection, border protection and trade facilitation.
